Excellent location close to Matlock and Matlock Bath as well as the nearest hiking trails in the area. Perfect views of the cliffs from the rooms. High standard rooms, very clean, excellent host - ensured our stay was comfortable and gave suggestions/answered any questions.

Oh, I wish all B&B’s could be like Ellen House! The host couple took so good care of us, tending to all our wishes and walking the extra mile to provide us with that hard-to-describe homey feeling. The rooms were clean, cosy and the interior design bore witness of both John and Anne’s love of their home and their South African background. The breakfast was to die for, with fresh fruit, greek yoghurt, a huge variety of hot dishes including plenty of options for vegetarians/vegans, and three types of home-made marmalade. If possible we would have graded Ellen House 11 out of 10.

A fabulous place to stay. Accommodation, breakfast and views great. Hosts exceedingly welcoming and helpful. The best place we have stayed whilst travelling in the UK for three weeks. Would recommend the Gables to anyone travelling to the Peak district.
