A Slice of Stunning Switzerland
Set on slopes by Lake Geneva, Lausanne is a laidback and liveable city. The views of the lake and dramatic peaks of the Alps are simply stunning, especially from Sauvabelin Tower in the northern woods.
Surrounded by vineyards, this is an outdoor lifestyle city great for sports including sailing, cycling and hiking. In fact, many international sporting governing bodies and the International Olympic Committee are based here. There is also an excellent Olympic Museum. In winter, Lausanne skiing options include the Jura Mountains to the north-west, and the Valais canton south-west of the lake.
By the lake (Lac Léman in French) is the Ouchy port area, home to many of the Lausanne hotels and restaurants. To the north is the Flon district, known for its lively nightlife popular with students.
The cobbled Old Town – the Cité – is a Swiss Heritage Site on a hill at the city’s highest point. It houses the castle and Lausanne Museum, both watched over by the multi-spired Notre-Dame cathedral. At the foot of the hill are 3 squares with markets, one of which – Place Riponne – is on the Metro.
This is the world’s smallest city with a Metro, an indicator of the wonderfully efficient Swiss transport system, meaning that Geneva Airport (the closest to Lausanne) is easily reachable.

And people are friendly everywhere The public transportation is tops metro and bus: Great having been given a pass for my stay. This made a big difference! Even a discount on CGN boats ! The quaint city is an hour away from Geneva.
The quaint city is an hour away from Geneva. Being on the banks of Lake Geneva, Lausanne is easily accessible to Evian by ferry. The lake edge is really stunning and allows one to spend a lazy day walking around. The Olympic museum is quite fascinating, and the aquarium at Aquaticusis very interesting for both adults and children. Do not miss the Farmer's market in the centre of town every Saturday morning where you can get some of the freshest produce possible.

We really enjoyed visiting the old town starting from the Cathedral, which although its undergoing restoration you can still go inside. The walk from the cobbled streets outside the Cathedral down to the train station is worth it, but you'll need comfy shoes to navigate the steep descent to Lausanne Station. Try to avoid staying over on Sunday.
Try to avoid staying over on Sunday. All the shops are closed after 6 pm to 6.30 pm from Monday to Saturday and close on Sunday. So we feel wasted 1 day on Lausanne as it is Sunday. We only can walk around visit Churches and window shops on Sunday.VinceMalaysia - 10Scored 10
Lausanne is a fantastic city.
Lausanne is a fantastic city. The lake is simply stunning and if you are a tourist I think staying by the lake is possibly better than being in the city as it is so beautiful and changes all the time. The city has some nice upmarket shops and some lovely restaurants. There is a great metro service to get you up and down the hill and most hotels give you a free pass for this. There are lots of young people in Lausanne and all the restaurants and bars are very busy. We visited Montreux by train and Gruyeres by bus and Evian les Bains across the lake by boat.

I traveled to other places in France a Switzerland. The train station is just 3 stops away from the hotel. The hotel is just above the metro station. When you arrive using the metro, you must take the elevator to floor E1. The hotel is just in front of the elevators to the left. Very well located! In Lausanne, we enjoyed the lake walk, the Olympic museum, the Place du Palau, the wood stairs. Just walking the city is relaxing. The cafes, the restaurants and shops are first class. We stayed 12 days and 11 nights. We wanted to stay longer. We love Switzerland ❤️

I was in room 23 on the third floor which is right above the street but when I close my windows, it was perfectly quiet. I got a nice breeze with the windows open at night because there is one on adjacent walls. Checking in was fine, but there was just the waitress in the cook when I got there, so they were quite busy but I understood. Check out is easy, just drop a key in the box and walk out.JohnUnited States

Positive points: + the bed is comfortable + the temperature is nice and cosy + reception staff is friendly + location is perfect, the hotel is in a very central neighbourhood but the street is quiet + you get free transportation everywhere in Lausanne (bus, metro..) and discounts in museums, although I think every hotel in Lausanne offers this.
